Unit 4

A work place varies from different companies and businesses. Some people may work in large office spaces where as others work in small studios. It all depends on where you work and the duties involved. Different cultures depend on the people you work with and the way your treat. You could go from design job to design job and have a totally different experience every time.

Everyone will treat you different, you can either work with nice people or nasty people. Behaviour in the workplace can determine how good the work rate is. If one employee has the intention of disrupting another employee - less work will be done.

Aggression - This is just generally acting out and having bad behaviour in the work place. This can include biting, hitting, pinching, grabbing, scratching, hair pulling, throwing objects or even verbal abuse. It should not be tolerated and you should notify your boss or the authority above you.

Self Injury Behaviour - Self injury can not only harm yourself but the people around you. This can vary from cutting, scraping, burning biting to even hitting. It should not occur in the workplace and people should make sure to stop it when they see it.

Stereotyped Behaviour - This is an act that gets repetitive and can annoy or irritate the people around you. For example rocking on your chair, repetitive speech and repetitive manipulation of objects. This can hinder not only your own ability but the people around you.

Socially Inappropriate Behaviour - Includes damage to property, hyperactivity, stealing, inappropriate sexualised behaviour, destruction of clothing, incontinence, temper tantrums, lacks of awareness of danger, withdrawal.

There are key members in a workplace which will help you if problems arise in the workplace, such as bullying, aggression or any bad behaviour. It is their job to understand the situation and sort the problem out. For example if a employee is being bullied by another, then they should tell a key member of workplace so they can help deal with the problem.

As a boss you want all the staff to get on well with each other, if they are unhappy it will affect the people around them. Therefore it is vital to keep the workplace a happy place.
