Its good practise to start dealing with actual clients on a day to day basis as that is an important part of being a designer. Therefore we were instructed to speak to clients on a website called Design Crowd which allows companies to have open based design contests to design logos, flyers, leaflets etc; and the favourite design (winner) gets paid. For my first design i decided to start out basic and try to do a logo, which later i could develop and start doing flyers, banners or even websites.
First Logo Design
My first logo was for a company called Mable. Which would be a medium for ageing males and females to connect. The target audience would of been 50 years old plus. From reading the project brief i had gained a understanding of what kind of logo they would like. They clearly stated warm and inviting colours which are large and easy to read. Therefore i decided to use pastel colours on the logo and make it large enough to read at a glance. The idea was to attract customers who were not comfortable with technology therefore i tried to make it more simple and less technical.
I included three different variations - with and without the slogan. I did this so they can see how it looks as a symbol if they wanted to put it on t-shirts or items where it needs to be more symbolic and less logo-like. There were 17 designs entered into the design contest and after Mable decided which they liked best, my logo did not win.
Second Logo Design
For my second attempt i wanted to remain doing logos as they did not take up too much time as say a flyer or leaflet would. My second project was for a jewelry company called HESPERA. They clearly stated they wanted a symbol - without text or slogans for example. The target audience was primarily women. I set out to do something iconic that appealed to women and could be easily recognised or linked to the company and what they do. The founders of the company had only recently decided on the name and wanted it to come across as mysterious, seductive and classy which the brand is meant to evoke.
I was inspired to incorporate a women shaped head into a diamond shaped symbol. This would allow me to remain on topic to the subject and symbolising the company as a whole - classy jewellery aimed at women. I wanted it to seem pristine and sharp. Therefore i put a slight reflection on the centre - which could be removed and a few slight lens flashes. Ultimately i did not win and there were a total of 119 designs entered to this competition.
Third Logo Design
My most recent design project was for a company called Titletown Flooring. Which was a flooring store, selling everything from carpets to hardwood floor. They were based in Green-bay, WI. They wanted the colours to be the the classic Gold and Navy colours of the NFL team - alongside this they wanted to see what the logo would look like black and white which would go on vans, t-shirts etc.
I had stuck to the original colours - had also showed what it would look like black and white. I wanted it to be as simple as possible therefore had quite liked the idea of symbolising stacked tiles onto of each other with the text beside it. I thought this logo was simple but effective. There was a total of 88 entries and i did not win.
